The classification of motor oils for cars and commercial vehicles is classified by the American Petroleum Institute (API). Oils that meet CATERPILLAR ECF-3 specifications
CAT ECF-3 applies to all 2007 and newer on-road diesel vehicles, as well as CAT 3500 series models.
CAT ECF-3 specification oils are used for engines equipped with particulate filters (DPF). The specification was created to comply with the 2007 EPA requirements for diesel engine toxic emissions.
