Driving in winter

• 1. Make sure that the fuel system is working, and also that there is a means for washing the windshield.
• 2. Start the car and turn on the heating to melt or soften the ice on the front and rear windshields.
• 3. After your car has warmed up, clean your mirrors, headlights, taillights, and license plate.
• 4. De-ice your windshield and wipe off as much as you can before getting back in your car and using the wiper blades. Remember that hot water is not an option for your glass, as it can damage it and even crack it.
• 5. Be sure to warm up the car and wipe the windshield as much as possible before activating the windshield wipers. It may seem faster and easier to turn on the wipers, but this can irreparably damage the parts of the wiper blades.
• 6. Once your windshields are frozen, try to clear the snow and ice around your wheels and under the front and rear bumpers to make your departure as smooth as possible.
• 7. Before starting, make sure that your car is warmed up, there are no danger signals and the car engine "sounds" properly.

Checklist for winter driving

Tire pressure

Tire pressure is critical to maintaining safe driving, which is even more important in winter conditions. Avoid sliding on icy roads by checking your tire pressure often. From time to time, make sure that the tire pressure meets the standards for your car model.

Battery check

During the onset of cold weather, the battery should be checked regularly. When the temperature drops, the battery must work harder due to increased use of the heater, defrosters and wiper blades. Battery failure is the leading cause of car breakdowns in the winter, so do everything you can to keep it in good condition and working. If you do need a new battery, especially in the winter, you should replace it as soon as possible.

Wiper blades
