More than 51 manufacturers of motor and other oils are involved in the production of oils that meet the BMW Longlife-04 standard.

Oil tolerances from BMW

Special BMW approval for fully synthetic long-life oils. Viscosity: SAE 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30 and 5W-40. Recommended for BMW equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Can also be used where BMW Longlife-98 or BMW Longlife-01 oils are recommended.

BMW Longlife-04 was introduced in 2005. The minimum oil requirements meet API SN, ACEA C3 (Low-SAPS). Motor oil with this tolerance can have a viscosity of SAE 0W-30, 5W-30, 0W-40, 5W-40. The tolerance is designed for diesel engines equipped with a soot filter (DPF - diesel particulate filters). The use of Longlife-04 oils is also possible in gasoline engines (only in EU countries plus Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein). Considering the interchangeability of Longlife-04 and Longlife-01 oils for gasoline engines in Europe, we recommend the use of Longlife-04 due to the higher content ZDDP (of the standard supplement for diesel engine oils) and a lower content of SAPS under the mandatory condition of refueling the car with high-quality fuel.
