SN
Engine oils that meet the requirements of the API SN specification.
The API SN class was approved on October 1, 2010. The new standard API (American Petroleum Institute) replaced the previous service category SM, which was introduced in 2004.
This specification provides for limited phosphorus content in motor oil, improved antioxidant and cleaning properties, energy saving, protection against corrosion and wear.
Engine oils of the API SN class can be used in gasoline engines if an oil of the category is required SM or SL.
This specification roughly corresponds to the characteristics of ASEAN C2, C3, C4, without correction for high-temperature viscosity and ILSAC GF-5.
