API SN is the latest generation of the American Petroleum Institute standard for gasoline engines, approved in 2004 and focused on increased wear protection, better oxidation stability and effective prevention of deposits in the combustion chamber, which ensures clean operation and longer service intervals. The specification requires compatibility with three‑way catalytic converters, so oils marked API SN do not harm modern emission‑control systems. This code is suitable for passenger gasoline power units with direct injection, turbocharging and high torque, including engines with “Start‑Stop” technology.
