ZF TE-ML 21B

The ZF TE‑ML 21B specification is ZF Friedrichshafen AG’s requirement for transmission lubricants, developed for heavy mechanical gearboxes used in commercial passenger and freight vehicles, particularly in the ZF 4HP, 5HP, 6HP and 8HP series. Technically it calls for high viscosity (e.g., 75W‑90), stability at temperatures up to 120 °C, protection against wear and oxidation, as well as compatibility with synchronizer alloys and gearbox bearings. Oil that meets TE‑ML 21B provides long‑lasting operation under high torque, reduces the risk of overheating and maintains optimal synchronizer performance under load. When upgrading to newer specifications, such as ZF TE‑ML 02B or TE‑ML 03D, products approved under TE‑ML 21B remain compatible with most of the same transmissions, allowing a safe transition to new lubricants without compromising warranty requirements.
