VW 501 01

VW 501 01 is an oil specification developed by the Volkswagen Group for older‑generation gasoline engines. It sets minimum requirements for viscosity (typically 10W‑40), oxidation stability, wear protection and oil consumption control, and also confirms compatibility with traditional three‑way catalysts installed in most passenger‑car models of VW, Audi, SEAT and Škoda up to the mid‑2000s. The specification does not include requirements for low‑ash technologies (SAPS) and is not intended for engines with DPF or SCR systems. It is suitable for gasoline 4‑cylinder, 5‑cylinder and V6 units, including direct‑injection models that require long‑lasting protective oil at high mileage.
