VOLVO VDS-4.5

VOLVO VDS‑4.5 is a technical approval from the Volvo Group, developed for medium‑ and heavy‑duty diesel engines used in trucks, buses and special equipment. The specification requires a base viscosity of 5W‑40 or 15W‑40, high oxidation stability, wear protection under high load, and the ability to keep cylinders clean during extended service intervals. Particular attention is given to compatibility with after‑treatment systems (DPF) – the oils must have a low SAPS content, which prevents filter clogging and maintains catalyst efficiency. VDS‑4.5 covers engine families D13, D11, D9 and their upgraded variants, including hybrid installations, and provides fuel savings and emission reductions compared with the previous VDS‑4 and VDS‑3.
