15W-50

The 15W‑50 designation according to SAE J300 standard indicates a cold viscosity of 15 (W) and a density of 50 cSt at 100 °C, providing a very high protective film during engine operation at high temperatures and heavy loads. This viscosity is traditionally used in high‑performance motorcycles, sports and racing cars, as well as in heavy older‑generation diesel engines operating in warm climatic conditions. 15W‑50 oils are suitable for engines without emission‑reduction systems such as DPF or SAPS catalysts, because their high viscosity can impair the operation of these devices. They deliver excellent protection against wear, oxidation and deposit formation even under prolonged high‑pressure regimes. When selecting a replacement, newer grades such as 10W‑50 or 15W‑40 can be considered, as they remain compatible with most engines designed for 15W‑50, but the final decision should be aligned with the manufacturer's recommendations.
