KIA SP-CVT 1

The KIA SP‑CVT 1 specification is a technical approval developed by the Korean manufacturer Kia for CVT‑type automatic transmissions installed in models such as Sportage, Sorento, Rio, etc. It defines the viscosity requirements (typically 5W‑30/5W‑40), high‑temperature stability, friction characteristics that ensure smooth operation of the continuously variable transmission and protection against wear of bearings and gears. Oil that meets KIA SP‑CVT 1 must have low microscopic abrasiveness, high oxidation resistance, and compatibility with a wet friction disc, which excludes the use of lubricants with high SAPS content that could damage friction elements. The specification applies exclusively to Kia gasoline and hybrid engines paired with a CVT and does not cover DPF or catalytic system support.
