Dexron IIIG

Dexron IIIG is a General Motors specification for automatic transmissions that defines the requirements for transmission fluid used in new gearboxes such as 6L80, 6L90, 6T70, 6T80 and 8L90, as well as in some passenger cars, SUVs and light trucks. Technically Dexron IIIG requires a stable viscosity at 40 °C (≈7.5 cSt) and 100 °C (≈2.5 cSt), a controlled coefficient of friction, high oxidation resistance, wear protection and foam suppression, which ensures long‑lasting operation of hydraulic systems and clutches. The specification provides compatibility with seals and contact‑surface materials, does not impose special requirements regarding SAPS, DPF or catalytic systems. Dexron IIIG is backward‑compatible with previous Dexron III versions, so fluids approved to this specification can safely replace older ATF in the corresponding transmissions.
