Specification MB 236.81 is an OEM approval from Mercedes‑Benz for transmission oils specially developed for the 7‑speed automatic gearbox type 7G‑Tronic Plus, which are installed in passenger and light commercial models (E‑Class, S‑Class, C‑Class, GL‑Class, etc.). The technical requirement calls for high thermal resistance, stability under high torque, low friction coefficient and excellent oxidation protection, ensuring long‑lasting operation of valve organs, friction discs and the torque converter without loss of performance. The oil must be compatible with seals and the materials of the gearbox’s internal components, and must not affect the operation of the transmission control system.
