Approval MB 236.1 – this is a technical requirement from Mercedes‑Benz for hydraulic fluids of automatic transmissions, including conventional automatic gearboxes, dual‑clutch (DCT) and some manual gearboxes in passenger and light commercial vehicles of the brand. The fluid must provide high viscosity stability over a wide temperature range, excellent oxidation resistance, anti‑foam and wear protection, as well as proper friction characteristics for smooth clutch engagement and power‑steering operation. The specification calls for compatibility with EPDM and NBR seals, preventing their degradation under high temperature and pressure. Using oils that meet MB 236.1 guarantees stable transmission operation, reduced risk of overheating and extended service life, which is especially important for older Mercedes‑Benz models where this approval is the original standard.
