JASO MA is a Japanese standard that defines engine oils with a high friction coefficient, intended for 4‑stroke gasoline engines of motorcycles, scooters and light motor vehicles where a wet multi‑plate clutch is used. Oil that meets MA provides stable torque transmission, protection against wear and oxidation over a wide temperature range, and is compatible with conventional catalytic converters, as it does not contain high levels of SAPS that could damage a DPF. The standard requires a minimum viscosity on cold start and sufficient resistance to spray, which prevents clutch slippage. If your motorcycle is recommended JASO MA2, oils marked MA remain compatible, although MA2 offers improved oxidation resistance.
