GM DEXOS 2 approval is General Motors' requirement for synthetic motor oils intended exclusively for gasoline engines with direct injection (GDI) and turbocharging, installed in passenger and crossover models of the Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Buick and Opel brands. Technically, DEXOS 2 requires a minimum viscosity of 0W30–5W40, high oxidation stability, wear protection at high temperatures and a low content of sulfate, aromatic and phosphorus compounds (low‑SAPS), which ensures long‑lasting operation of catalysts and the selective catalytic reduction system (DPF) without risk of fouling. Oil that meets DEXOS 2 provides rapid lubrication during cold start, reduces fuel consumption and maintains stable operation of the emissions control system, including three‑way catalysts. For engines already certified to DEXOS 2, newer GM DEXOS 2 Gen 3 approvals are also suitable, which remain backward compatible, although their use is not mandatory.
