BMW M-Engines

The BMW M‑Engines specification is a BMW OEM approval developed specifically for high‑performance M engines of the M series (M3, M4, M5, M8, X5 M, X6 M, etc.). It requires the lubricant to maintain viscosity stability at temperatures up to 130 °C, high resistance to shear under high torque, low volatility and effective wear protection, ensuring uninterrupted operation at high RPM and elevated loads. Since many M engines are equipped with turbocharging and direct injection, the oil must be compatible with catalysts and, when necessary, with DPF systems, without increasing SAPS levels. The specification covers gasoline engines with turbocharging, direct injection and high torque, as well as some high‑performance diesel units that use BMW Longlife‑01, Longlife‑04 and Longlife‑12 FE technologies.
