BMW ATF6

The BMW ATF‑6 specification is a requirement for automatic transmission fluid, developed by BMW to ensure optimal operation of hydraulic and friction elements in their automatics. Fluid that meets ATF‑6 must have a stable viscosity in the range of 6.5‑7.5 cSt at 100 °C, high oxidation resistance, wear protection, and the ability to transmit precise friction torque in electronically controlled systems. The specification applies to BMW gasoline and diesel engines coupled with ZF automatic transmissions 5HP, 6HP, 7HP, as well as the newer 8HP used in the 3, 5, 7, X5, X6 series and in M‑versions, where compatibility with torque elements and temperature control systems is required. ATF‑6 is compatible with catalysts and DPF systems because it contains no sulfate additives, allowing exhaust paths to remain clean.
