GL-5

GL‑5 designation is the highest level of protection in the API transmission oil series, setting requirements for wear, oxidation resistance and corrosion protection in gearboxes, differentials and reducers. Oils that meet GL‑5 have an increased EP (Extreme Pressure) rating and contain special additives that form a strong protective film on metal surfaces even under high loads and temperatures up to 120 °C. This standard is intended for heavy diesel engines with manual transmissions, off‑road vehicles, trucks and industrial units where maximum protection of gear tooth engagement is required. GL‑5 is compatible with newer API GL‑4 specifications, so oils marked GL‑5 can safely replace older GL‑4 products without loss of performance characteristics.
