API SP

API SP is the latest generation of the American Petroleum Institute specification for gasoline engines, introduced in 2014 and targeted at modern 4‑stroke units with direct injection, turbocharging and hybrid systems. Technically it requires increased oxidation resistance, minimal deposit formation on valves and pistons, improved wear protection and reduced risk of LSPI, and also provides fuel savings through reduced internal friction. The specification guarantees compatibility with catalysts and particulate filters (DPF), making it suitable for engines equipped with after‑treatment systems. API SP is suitable for passenger gasoline engines up to 4 L, including new models from Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes‑Benz, Toyota and others, as well as older models that already meet API SN requirements.
