API CI-4

API CI‑4 is a specification of the American Petroleum Institute, developed for high‑speed diesel engines with power up to 2000 rpm, installed in trucks, buses and heavy special equipment. Oil that meets CI‑4 provides minimal wear protection, high oxidation stability, adequate detergency and corrosion protection, as well as the ability to operate at elevated temperatures and loads. The specification allows compatibility with conventional after‑treatment systems, but does not require low levels of sulfated, aromatic and phosphorus compounds (SAPS), therefore CI‑4 is not optimal for engines with DPF or a catalyst that require low‑SAPS lubricants. This code is suitable for engines that previously used API CD, CE or CF, and can be replaced by newer CI‑4 PLUS or CJ‑4 without loss of basic protective properties.
