AISIN-WARNER AW-2

The AISIN‑WARNER AW‑2 specification is a technical standard developed by Aisin Warner for automatic transmissions, defining requirements for viscosity, thermal stability, anti‑wear, oxidative stability, and compatibility with friction materials and seals. It is intended for modern 5‑, 6‑ and 7‑speed automatic gearboxes installed in many Japanese passenger and crossover models (Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Mazda, etc.), as well as in some diesel power units with automatics. AW‑2 provides smooth gear shifting, protection against overheating and wear, and maintains long‑term oil stability under high loads. The specification is compatible with DPF technologies and catalysts, as it contains no harmful SAPS, allowing its use in engines with reduced‑emission systems. When needed, newer Aisin approvals can be applied, which remain backward compatible with the AW‑2 requirements without losing protective properties.
