AISIN-WARNER AW-1

The AISIN‑WARNER AW‑1 specification is a technical standard developed by the Japanese transmission manufacturer Aisin Warner for automatic transmissions with hydraulic torque converters. It defines requirements for viscosity, thermal stability, oxidation resistance, and seal compatibility, providing the proper friction level and smooth gear shifting in conventional 4‑, 5‑ and 6‑speed automatics installed on gasoline, diesel and hybrid engines. AW‑1 does not include special requirements for low‑emission systems, so it is compatible with catalytic converters but not targeted for DPF compatibility. The specification is commonly used in Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Mazda and other OEM models that employ Aisin Warner transmissions. Although newer standards, such as AISIN‑WARNER AW‑2, offer increased protective action, products that meet AW‑1 remain fully compatible with existing gearboxes, allowing technicians to safely use them in service centers.
